The Bob Company ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Bob University mobile application and website at app.thebobcompany.com (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name and email address
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Authentication credentials (or tokens from Apple/Google sign-in)

Professional Information

During onboarding and profile setup, we may collect:

  • Professional role (salon owner, individual stylist, or client)
  • Years of experience
  • Salon name and affiliation
  • Skills assessment data (experience level, goals, specializations)

Location Data

If you use the stylist directory feature, we collect your location (city, state, country, and coordinates) with your explicit permission. This is used solely to show nearby stylists on the directory map. You can deny or revoke location permission at any time through your device settings.

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or bank account details. We retain transaction records including subscription plan, purchase history, and billing dates.

Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you use the Service, including:

  • Video watch history and learning progress
  • Module and certification completion
  • Community posts, comments, and interactions
  • Event registrations
  • Notification preferences

Device Information

We collect device-level information for delivering push notifications and monitoring app stability, including device platform (iOS/Android), push notification tokens, and error/crash reports.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Deliver personalized learning content and track your progress
  • Send transactional communications (receipts, confirmations, account updates)
  • Send marketing communications (with your consent)
  • Operate the stylist directory and community features
  • Monitor and fix technical issues
  • Respond to support requests

3. Third-Party Services

We share information with the following third-party service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — Database hosting and user authentication
  • Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe receives your email, name, and payment method to process transactions. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Mux — Video hosting and streaming delivery
  • Mapbox — Map rendering for the stylist directory
  • Sentry — Error monitoring and crash reporting. Sentry receives your user ID and error context to help us fix bugs.
  • Expo Push Service — Delivering push notifications to your device
  • Resend — Sending transactional and marketing emails
  • GoHighLevel — Customer relationship management and marketing automation. Your name, email, phone, and professional information are synced to manage communications.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in consent data with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. SMS consent is used only to send messages from The Bob Company that you requested or agreed to receive.

4. Push Notifications, Email & SMS

With your permission, we send push notifications about learning updates, events, community activity, and more. You can manage your notification preferences at any time in the app under Profile > Notification Preferences, or disable push notifications through your device settings.

We send transactional emails (payment receipts, subscription confirmations) which are necessary for the Service. Marketing emails require your consent and include an unsubscribe link in every message.

SMS text messages are optional. If you provide your phone number and opt in, we may send certification updates, event reminders, payment alerts, and subscription status messages from The Bob Company. Message frequency varies up to 4 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any text message or by changing your notification preferences in the app. For help, reply HELP or contact support@thebobcompany.com.

5. Marketing & Consent

We track your marketing consent preferences with timestamps. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time through:

  • Notification Preferences in the app
  • Unsubscribe links in any marketing email
  • Contacting us at support@thebobcompany.com

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. Payment records are retained as required for tax and legal compliance. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Opt out of marketing communications
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
